Must be planted in full shade, making this a good plant as an accent to large-leaved rhododendrons, mountain-laurel or similar shrubs in a shade garden. Grows 8-12’ high.

Waxleaf, Glossy or Chinese Privet

The leaves are not as lustrous dark green and habit is more loose in outline than L. japonicum. The leaves  have an opaque rim around the margins.  The fruit and flowers are larger than the japonicum and flowers bloom about 2 to 3 weeks later than the Japanese Privet.  Fruit is a dull blue-black.  Grows 40-50’ and becomes quite open in the process.

This is a better grade of muscari with a slightly wider leaf and large dark violet flowers,   followed by black berries in the fall.  An excellent plant in the landscape industry, it makes beautiful borders.  Evergreen perennial.  This is a hardy clump forming plant,  reaching a height of 12-15”.   Sun to shade.

Goldflame Honeysuckle

The new growth has a handsome purplish red tinge that becomes blue-green with maturity. Stems are purplish red and hairless. Foliage is essentially evergreen to 15 to 20 degrees.  Considered the most handsome of the climbing honeysuckles,  flower buds are carmine and as they open, the yellow inside the corolla is exposed with the bud gradually changing to pink. Flowers are slightly fragrant, blooming March or April into summer with sporadic recurrent bloom in fall.  10-20’ height.  Full sun.
