Athyrium nipponicum ‘Pictum’            USDA 5-8

Japanese Painted Fern

This is used as a high contrast to darker greens in any shade garden.  The fronds bear darker blue-green center rib that fades to silver variegation at the edges.  The short stature and spreading form is ideal for foreground foliage or pots.  Required shade or part shade and moist, well-drained soil. Grows 18-24” tall and wide.

Shaggy Shield Fern

Beautiful dark fern with fronds that have a golden-green color which contrasts nicely with the darker greens of some other varieties. Requires well-drained soil.  Shaggy won’t stretch in complete shade, however will take medium shade to partial sun.

Dixie Wood Fern

Great spectacular fern with tall erect growth and dark green fronds.  Semi-evergreen, clumping fern. Mature size is 48 - 60" in height.  Shade.

Autumn Fern

Autumn Fern was named due to its autumn-like color.   It is a dwarf growing fern with young papery fronds displaying coppery-red color, maturing into a dark green. The fronds take on an autumn color again in fall.   Deciduous.  Mature size is 18-24” height and width.  Shade.

Cinnamon Fern

Foliage for this beautiful fern is blue-green in summer.  New growth is covered with white hairs.  The 4’ long fronds are a contrasting cinnamon brown.  The color and architectural form distinguish this pretty fern.  It prefers acidic humus rich soil and even moisture, with shade or partially shaded areas.  It grows 4’ tall and 3’ wide.

Royal Fern

The green fronds are light green with leaf segments resembling the leaves of the ash tree,  It is a slow spreading fern. Can be grown in wet soil. Full sun or partial shade.  It reaches 3-4’ height.

This very hardy evergreen fern  has a deep rich green color. Leaflets are lance-shaped in dense clusters.  Evergreen lustrous tapering leaves to 18” Ht. Shade or partial shade. Great for floral décor.

Semi-evergreen. Triangular-shaped fronds emerge purplish, turning green at maturity. Mature Ht. 8-18”.  Zone 5-8.
