Loblolly Pine

Dark green needles turning an off color in cold climates.  Loose pyramidal form in youth but loses its lower branches with age and becoming fairly open, oval-rounded crown at maturity.  Grows 40-50’ under landscape conditions.  Fast growing.  Very adaptable to extremes of soil conditions.  Full sun.

Virginia (Scrub) Pine

Yellow-green to dark green twisted, spreading leaves grow on this broad open pyramidal tree.  With age, the branches spring irregularly from the stem drooping low with long outstretched limbs. Cones are 1 ½ to 3” long by 1 to 1 ¼ broad.  Does well in dry or poor soils, best on clay loam or sandy loam.  Often used as a cover for dry  and barren soils for landscapers.  Used extensively as Christmas trees.  Grows 15-40’ high, 10-30’ spread. Full sun.

Chinese Pistachio

This desirable ornamental tree has attractive upswept branches forming the umbrella-like crown.  The leaves are a lustrous green, turning a brilliant orange-crimson in the fall.  The stems give off a prominent odor when bruised.  The drupe matures to a robin’s egg blue or red in the same fruit cluster, ripening in October, attracting birds.  It will withstand poor, droughty soils and a wide range of conditions, but does best in moist well drained soil.   A good “street’, lawn or park tree.  Grows from 30-35’ tall to 25-35’ in width.  Full sun.

Eastern Cottonwood

Lustrous light to medium green leaves in summer, falling  early but only has a hint of yellow, in some regions good yellow.   Prefers moist conditions but will tolerate dry soils.  Grows 75-100’ tall spreading 50-75’.  Full sun.

‘Okamee Cherry

A cross between Prunus incisa and Prunus campanulata.  A very striking and hardy tree with carmine-pink petals from March-April, a rose red calyx and reddish flower stalks.   Leaves turn bronze to orange-red in fall.  Matures from 20-30’ with similar spred.

Krauter’s Vesuvius Purple Leaf Plum

This is perhaps the most colorful of the flowering plums.  The tree has an oval crown, producing showy light pink flowers in early to mid April followed by  dark purple-black foliage.  Seldom has fruit.  Grows to a height of 20’ to 15’ wide.  Deciduous.  Full sun.

The most popular and hardy of the double flowering oriental cherries, it produces an abundance of clusters of double deep pink blooms backed by bronzy-red new growth.  It grows upright, with a vase-shaped branching habit, growing to 20-25’ tall, 15-20’ or more wide. Makes a wonderful lawn specimen.   Deciduous, Full sun.

Snow Fountains Weeping Cherry

It’s gracefully cascading branches are covered   with snow white single blooms in spring.  Lush green leaves become gold and orange hues in fall. This is an excellent plant for the Japanese-style garden or   any landscape.  Heat and drought tolerant. A slow grower from a 12-15’ high  crown  with a width of 15-20’.  Deciduous. Full sun.

Weeping Higan Cherry

With graceful weeping branches, this tree displays deep pink buds opening to double pale pink blooms peaking in March-April before it leaves.    The tree is a beautiful mushroom shaped lawn tree used widely in landscapes for the beautiful show.  A moderate grower, it reaches heights of 12-15’ and more tall and wide.   Deciduous.   Full sun.

Snow Goose Cherry

Blooms are a beautiful white appearing before the luscious clean, bright green leaves appear.  Strongly upright as a young tree, widening with age.  Leaves turn red in the fall.  This species appears to have a resistance to the common foliage diseases of cherries.

Yoshino Cherry

A rounded crown of spreading arching branches, this tree is covered by glossy dark green leaves, becoming yellow in fall. It produces a profusion of soft pink fragrant flowers. It makes a quite showy tree in spring making a nice specimen for lawn. Vigorous grower to 25’ tall and wide.  Deciduous.    Full sun.

A conical shaped ornamental tree which produces outstanding clusters of white flowers early in the season.  It has lustrous dark green leathery leaves changing to a terrific yellow to red to purple foliage in fall.  It produces no fruit. Height reaches 30-35’ with a width of 20-25’, growing larger and broader with age.  Deciduous.  Full sun.
